One of the most interesting concepts in the practice of Feng Shui is to remove objects from your home or work that have a negative association, in order to create better balance and energy flow.
While that table may be cute, when you put your coffee cup on it each morning, you may actually be giving yourself a daily subliminal reminder of your failed marriage and all the pain it caused you.
In other words, the table has some seriously bad chi. But, instead of acknowledging it and sticking the table on Craig’s List, you just live with it and chalk the unhappiness it brings you to other, more overt things in your life.
We humans do this with all sorts of things (like keeping plaques on our desk given to us by bosses we hated or unwanted paintings on our walls from in-laws who have horrible taste in art) even though it takes little time to do the psychological housekeeping to remove them.
Out of sight = happier mind.
We do it on Facebook, too.
Maybe you have a Facebook friend who…
- …goes on and on every day about how much they hate their job.
- …baits people into arguing with them about politics.
- …reminds others incessantly that everything in their life is PERFECT.
But instead of unfriending these people, you likely just endure them.
But guess what?
All that enduring takes a psychological toll on you, just like looking at your ex’s coffee table, day after day.
Lucky for you, annoying Facebook friends are the easiest things to feng shui out of your life.
- You don’t have to endure them.
- You don’t have to confront them.
- You don’t even have to unfriend them.
All you have to do is hide them, (and all their annoying status updates) in your feed.
When you do, it’ll be like standing in the blissful peace of a quiet room that once had a faint, grating, humming noise in the background. You may feel lighter…maybe even a little happier, too.
All those sensations are clues that your Facebook feed is now in a more harmonious balance — that you cleared away the things that bogged you down in favor of the things that lift you up.
