Today is Veterans Day and, like most years, my Facebook feed is full of pictures and posts commemorating the day.
It’s a beautiful thing to witness, but it's also a little frustrating.
While I am happy to see so many people expressing their gratitude for veterans, I can’t help feeling like all of the chatter rings a bit hollow.
You see, I believe veterans deserve more that a one-day virtual thumbs up for their service.
I believe they deserve some service to them, in return.
And what better day to give it to them than today?
If you agree, then what about if today, instead of just saying something about veterans on Facebook, you DID something for a veteran instead?
Maybe...
It doesn't have to be big. It's the act that counts, not the kudos you gets for it.
And then give this some thought: what if you followed this same protocol for EVERY holiday?
Facebook is an incredible tool. I don't want to downplay the power of your words when you post them there.
But, ultimately I think it’s your actions that make the bigger impact today, and every day. It’s your action that, when described on Facebook, inspire others to do the same. It's your actions that can trigger a domino affect of kindness and support and change the world.
And that is certainly worth celebrating.
